Title: Co-benefits and trade-offs between climate change mitigation and adaptation measures and policies in cities
Ayyoob Sharifi is an Associate Professor at the Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences, Hiroshima University. He also has a cross-appointment at the Graduate School of Advances Science and Engineering. Ayyoob's research is mainly at the interface of urbanism and climate change mitigation and adaptation. He actively contributes to global change research programs such as the Future Earth and is currently serving as a lead author for the Sixth Assessment Report (AR6) of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Before joining Hiroshima University, he was the Executive Director of the Global Carbon Project (GCP)-a Future Earth core project- leading the urban flagship activity of the project which is focused on conducting cutting-edge research for supporting climate change mitigation and adaptation in cities. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Surveying), a master’s degree in Urban and Regional Planning, and a doctorate in Environmental Engineering. Ayyoob is interested in pursuing research at the interface of climate change and urban planning. The ultimate goal of his research is to provide further insights into how to develop sustainable, peaceful, just, and resilient communities.

Title:Catalysis for Remediation: Solving Big Problems with Simple Solutions
Dr. Lam Sze Mun is an Associate Professor in the Department of Environmental Engineering, Faculty of Engineering and Green Technology, Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman. Her main research focuses on development of engineered nanomaterials for use in the wastewater purification and renewable energy areas. Till now, she has delivered more than 70 WoS journals and 9 book chapters on her research topics and with a h-index of 25 (based on Scopus database). She also appointed as a visiting researcher at Guilin University of Technology, China in years 2018-2021. Currently, she is supervising 3 PhD and 4 MSc students. A total of 2 PhD and 8 Master students had graduated under her supervision. Dr. Lam also managed to secure many international and local universities grants and some industries grants to expand her research works. She also served as a recipient for Asian Women Entrepreneurs Leadership Award in Science and Environmental category awarded by Malaysia Chinese Women Entrepreneurs Association (MCWEA) in 2019 and L’Oréal-UNESCO For Women in Science Fellowships 2018 awarded by L’Oréal-UNESCO. Besides, Dr. Lam won awards in several national and international innovation exhibitions. She also walked away with the “BEST Award and Gold Award” during National Innovation and Invention Competition through Exhibition 2019 (iCompEx’19). Dr. Lam also serves as an editorial board member and reviewer for several renowned journal publishers.
